These are a great go-to. Perfect blend of chewy and crispy; what you always strive for with a sugar cookie recipe. Get the tots involved, cutting out fun shapes and sprinkling with sugar. Good old-fashioned fun for the whole family!
Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies
1 cup unsalted butter
1 ½ cups white sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Milk and sugar for sprinkling
Cream together butter and sugar in a bowl. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, mix well the flour, baking powder and salt.
Stir flour mixture into butter mixture, 1 cup at a time.
Chill dough for 3-4 hours.
After chilling, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. While oven is preheating, roll out dough and cut into shapes with cookie cutters (kids love helping with this part).
Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar (colored sugar is fun, too), if desired.
Bake on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone baking mat for 10-15 minutes (depending on cookie size).
Remove and cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes before moving to wire rack to cool completely.
